• Fantastic first quarter for the port of LA

From Joseph Pereira@1:124/5016 to All on Mon Apr 28 15:30:00 2025

In the first months of this year, a huge number of ships were unloaded in the port of Los Angeles.

Especially from China, many ships were sent that had to be unloaded just before the import tariffs came into effect.

It will be clear to everyone why bookings for space in the port of Los Angeles have currently been reduced by 60%. It's not that ships have turned around, but it is the case that far fewer ships are now sailing towards the US.

This is worse than it seems.

We are going to feel this disruption of logistics worldwide. After all, what are those ships going to do now? Lie idle in Chinese ports? Then the costs for the shipping companies will increase significantly. Follow other routes and look for new markets? But what are they going to sell more of elsewhere in a world that is essentially waiting for the economic crisis that Trump is causing?

In short, we are going to suffer from this logistical nightmare for at least months. In the US, the first shelves will be empty within a week, and it could literally take months before ships that are now doing nothing in China are sufficiently fully booked again to want to make a trip to the US. The import tariffs may then be back from 145% to 55%, but that is still a substantial tariff and enough to just not order anything for a while, because in a week things could be completely different again. How much risk do you want to take as an importer?

Factories in China are now stopping production for the American market. After all, it is unknown when it will become accessible again, and storing products in China also costs money. Better to not produce anything for a while.

In short, it will be a mess in the American economy, and the question is how much of the rest of the world will be dragged into this logistical and production nightmare that is emerging here.

The burning question here is whether the republican base and
legislators will finally have had enough of Trump and his policies. And
    will it be too late?
